Campground where DeOrr Kunz went missing temporarily closed

Cadaver dogs gave a hard alert after a search in Leadore where DeOrr Kunz Jr. went missing, said private investigator David Marshburn.

Due to environmental conditions, they were unable to continue the secondary search after the alert was given.

The Lemhi County Sheriff's Office has temporarily closed an area where DeOrr Kunz went missing in the summer of 2015.

The sheriff's office says the closure will be in effect between Friday and Monday in the Timber Creek area.

"We have conducted yearly searches since the date of DeOrr's disappearance and this is the second time we have implemented an area closure, as part of the search investigative plan," Lemhi County Sheriff Steve Penner said. "At this time I would also like to clarify that the closure is simply the Lemhi County Sheriff's Office practicing due diligence in the continuing on-going investigation into the missing child in this area."

Kunz and his family were camping in the Leadore area -- not far from the Montana border when he disappeared. No one has seen him since.

"It is also imperative that the public understand that official statements regarding this case will come from the Lemhi County Sheriff's Office and we will not release information based on speculation or unverified facts. All press releases will be done through (our) local professional media as we continue to search and investigate."

Kunz was 2 years old at the time of his disappearance.
